Upgraded GR Corolla Expected To Arrive In Australia In Q4 2024**

Toyota has taken the wraps off its upgraded GR Corolla that is set to offer motoring enthusiasts an even more thrilling drive with increased torque for the turbo 1.6-litre engine and the option of an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The upgraded five-door hot hatch in both automatic and six-speed manual versions is due to arrive in Australia in the last quarter of 2024 and also features a redesigned front bumper to deliver enhanced cooling and re-tuned suspension for improved dynamic handling performance.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the addition of an automatic option for the GR Corolla would further enhance the appeal of this race-bred hot hatch.

“When we first launched the GR Corolla here in 2023, it was an immediate hit with driving enthusiasts combining the performance of a track-day car derived from our TOYOTA GAZOO Racing motorsport experience with the practicality of a five-door hatch,” Mr Hanley said.

“We have now further enhanced that unique combination with even greater performance and the addition of a new powertrain option that offers the ease and convenience of a race-bred automatic transmission,” he said.

The new powertrain pairs an eight-speed GAZOO Racing direct automatic transmission (DAT) designed for high-performance shifting in race-track environments with an upgraded version of the turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine.

Maximum power remains unchanged at 221kW while the high-revving engine gains an additional 30Nm of torque, generating a maximum output of 400Nm.

This is fed to all four wheels through the sophisticated GR FOUR all-wheel drive system with the automatic transmission tuned for track driving with highly-responsive paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.

Along with the new powertrain performance, Toyota has redesigned the front bumper of the GR Corolla to optimise the balance of cooling performance and aerodynamic efficiency.

The front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension has also been retuned to further improve the car’s already dynamic handling, particularly when accelerating through corners.

Inside, the GR Corolla maintains its driver-focused cabin with a high level of standard equipment, big-bolstered leather-accented and suede seats, and sports trim that mark the car as a true high-performance GR vehicle.

More information and pricing will be provided closer to launch in late 2024.
